I purchased the KÅNKEN WEEKENDER as my bag for a 3-week trip around Europe and it almost worked perfectly- but the backpack straps ripped off after 2 weeks of travel. I have the pictures timestamped in the metadata to prove the timeline.
I was always able to close it properly and it fit perfectly under the seat in front of me on almost every plane- So I was really sad when the backpack straps ripped out of the top seam while I was walking through Lyon, France.
The bag capacity itself was great - in two Eagle Creek compression bags I carried 2 pairs of pants, 1 sweater, 1 extra pair of shoes (wrapped in shoe covers) a few neutral T-shirts, and my toiletry bag. I was able to pack my canvas tote away into the outside pocket when budget airline employees were being picky.
Also - 3 times when airline employees were making everyone test their bags in the box, they took one look at my bag and let me pass without testing it. probably obvious that the bag is tailored to airline limitations - that was nice. The bag would have been perfect if the backpack straps didn't fail.
I had to use the crossbody strap for the next week and a half and it hurt terribly.
That's when I noticed - the Weekender backpack straps are not supported the same way as the classic Kanken bags- they look like they're less supportive than the mini.
Online it says this bag should be able to last a lifetime- so I’m very disappointed that the backpack straps failed so quickly.
